In a shootout with criminals, Deputy Rick Grimes is seriously wounded and loses consciousness. Waking up after a prolonged coma in the hospital, he realizes that he is all alone, the building has long been abandoned, and the living dead are walking around in the street. Realizing that during his stay in a comatose state, the zombie apocalypse occurred in the world, the man rushes home to his family, but finds no one there. In parallel, his wife Lori, son Carl and former partner Shane Walsh, alive and unharmed, are hiding from the zombies along with the rest of the group of survivors. Very soon they will realize that in a completely transformed world they are waiting for much more serious dangers than the walking dead.
